As 2012 comes to a close, it is clear that being a parent is no easy task. From trying to find the work-life balance to breastfeeding choices to the safety of our children, the world is a scary place, and there is always someone ready to tell you whether you are doing something right or wrong. Here we’ve rounded up the top ten parenting stories of 2012 that have had people talking or shaped the way we parent differently today than we may have a year ago.
The French are Better Parents than Us
This year, thanks to Pamela Druckerman, we learned that not only are the French skinnier and more stylish than we Americans, but they’re also better parents, at least according to her book Bringing Up Bebe: One American Mother Discovers the Wisdom of French Parenting. French children eat well-balanced meals, sit quietly in restaurants, and play independently while their parents sip coffee and chat with friends, all things that sound foreign to many American families; although we do a few things right too.
