I love to bake all year round, but there’s something about the holidays that brings out that urge more than ever. Perhaps it’s because we’re all happy to indulge in baked goods, precisely because it’s that time of year. I have my collection of classic Christmas cookie recipes that I make over and over again, but I also try to branch out and experiment with new recipes that I find by poring over cookbooks, magazines, websites, and food blogs. Here are ten new recipes that I’m eager to add to my cookie “repertoire” and, hopefully, will also inspire you to start baking immediately.
Black Forest Crinkle Cookies
My friend Andrea sent home a sample of these Black Forest Crinkle Cookies. I ate them in a flash and immediately asked for the recipe. The dried cherries give these cookies little bursts of sourness that cut through the sweetness of the double chocolate dough. Rolling twice in icing sugar ensures that the exterior stays white as the cookies "crinkle" and crack in the oven. They’re a welcome change from typical chocolate crinkle cookies and deliciously decadent.
