Red Hot Mama: 5 Totally Wearable, Mom-Friendly Red Lip Options

I'm not a big makeup girl; a little tinted moisturizer and a swoosh of blush and I'm ready to face the day. But lately, I'm all about the red lip, particularly with my otherwise-bare face. It's an easy way to look polished and put together without a lot of effort -- which is key when I'm trying to get myself and the kids out the door in the morning.
Want to try your own red lip? Here are five options to choose from. Share your favorites in the comments!
My hot mama friend Sarah James swears by this lipstick; it goes on sheer but can be layered for a more dramatic look. This classic candy-apple red works with virtually all skintones. (NARS Sheer Lipstick,$24)
This is my go-to; it's a gloss, so it's not drying or heavy, but it has enough pigment to last all day. And the fact that it has an SPF of 15 is an extra bonus. (Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF15, $14)
Esteé Lauder's Pure Color Gloss is the perfect middle ground between a lipstick and a lip gloss. It has the slick feel of a gloss with the rich pigment of a traditional lipstick. Wet Cranberry is a blue-toned red, perfect for girls with cool skin tones. (Esteé Lauder Pure Color Gloss, $20)
If your skin tone is on the warm side, look for an orange-red; fashion blogger Sarah Conley of StyleIT Online recommends Cover Girl Lip Perfection in Hot as a go-to for day. Bonus: because this is a drugstore brand, it will run you less than half of what a makeup counter brand will. (Cover Girl Lip Perfection, $7)
Not sure you can pull off a dramatic red? Try this one on for size; it's a classic fire-engine red that doesn't cost a fortune (which makes it perfect for a first-time red lip). Feel like Red Revival might be too much for day? Maybelline has an impressive selection of reds in their Color Sensationals line -- try a few on for size. (Maybelline Color Sensational Lipcolor, $8)
