I'm one of the first people to admit that I loved registering for baby gear, but I'm also one of the first people that will stop someone from going overboard with it. My approach to preparing for the arrival of our first born was quality over quantity and less is more. Part of this was due to an overwhelming lack of space in the condo we lived in during the time when our first baby arrived, and part of this was due to the fact that I couldn't bear have a house full of oversized plastic furniture and gadgets for the baby. Even though my baby days are over, I still get very excited when I see a new product to hit the market that serves multiple purposes and isn't offensive to the eyes and the new Stokke Bounce n' Sleep is just that.

The name pretty much says it all, but this product acts as a bouncy that reclines flat and allows the parents to transfer the baby to a standing sleeper using the attached handles almost like a Moses basket except for that this unit has a five-point harness for safety. The piece then acts as bassinet for sleeping, although they call is a daybed and don't recommend it as a replacement for a crib. It is meant to be used to help parents during the daytime to transition the infant from play time to nap time without having to run between rooms. Additional features include a toy bar and a rocking feature for when parents need to soothe the baby.

This piece has a decidedly modern design, but its neutral color palette also allows it to blend in easily to many different style homes, certainly much more so than some sort of jungle themed bouncy with plastic toys dangling all over it. And if you can use it as a bouncy, Moses basket, and day-sleeper, then you're also streamlining the amount of pieces you need or want in your home.

Of course, as we well know good design doesn't come cheap. This system retails for $450, but the pieces can be purchased separately. However, when you take into consideration that the complete system will take the place of two or three other items and make your life easier for about the first six months of your baby's life, every penny will seem worth it.
