Adding place cards to your Thanksgiving table is an easy way to add a touch of personalization, and a great way to let the kids get involved in decorating for the holiday. Even if you hadn't factored in having place cards at each setting, these turkey place cards can be made using items from around the house and in just a few minutes the morning of the big day. And because the kids can make them, they don't make your to-do any longer.

Step 1: Using a glass of about three inches in diameter, trace however many circles as you have guests on a piece of paper, and cut them out.

Step 2: Cut out five feather shaped pieces of paper (I used decorative papers, but if you don't have any you can use plain paper and have the kids color each piece) for each turkey that you'll be making. Also cut out one small triangle for the turkey's beak and one long tear drop shape for the turkey's waddle. Also cut out two feet for the turkey (see below).

Step 3: Affix the feathers to the backside of the circle with the decorative side facing up using glue. Then glue the beak and waddle to the side edge of the circle on whichever side you want the turkey to be facing, and glue the feet to the bottom of the circle. Lastly, using a marker (I used a gold paint marker) draw in an eye and write out the names of the people on their place card.

One of the best things about this little project is that it's really easy to customize using what you've got. You can make these as fancy or as simple as you want. You can make them funky turkeys using all sorts of different patterned papers or use craft feathers and sequins to make them super colorful and sparkly. And no matter what type of turkey you end up with, everyone will love them because adding that homemade element to your decor just emphasizes the focus on family and friends which is what Thanksgiving is all about.
