10 Celebrity Parenting Events That Had Everyone Talking
From births to bumps, 2011 delivered plenty of stories regarding celebrities and their offspring. Some are heart-warming, some are sweet and others are slightly disturbing. Take a look at this list and let us know if we forgot your favorite headlines.
1. Will and Kate's Perpetual Bump Watch
Poor Prince William had barely put a ring on it before the world began to speculate over Kate's bun-in-the-oven status. Since their April wedding, tabloids have switched gears from "wedding watch" to "bump watch," as the couple's every move has been scrutinized. For example, Kate turned down a sample of peanut paste, which some women avoid during pregnancy due to allergenic potential. This tiny, innocuous gesture was enough to re-invigorate gossip over the pair's parental status. To date, they have not announced a pregnancy, but at least when they do they’ll be able to rest assured that even a daughter will probably have a shot at the throne, thanks to recent legislative efforts.
2. Mindy McCready's Pseudo-Kidnapping

McCready, who's known about as well for her non-musical issues as she is for her hit country singles, came under scrutiny in December when she didn't return her 5-year-old son Zander to his maternal grandmother, who has custody. Widespread publicity of the missing child ensued and eventually the debacle ended when Arkansas police found the pair hiding in a closet. McCready plans to fight for custody of her child, claiming that he's suffered abuse at the hands of his current caregivers.
3. Beyonce's Baby Bump Reveal

Most of us just post pregnancy news on Facebook. Beyonce and Jay-Z, however, made the ultimate announcement when the former Destiny's Child singer unveiled her burgeoning baby bump while walking the red carpet at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. Word on the street is that the proud parents-to-be will welcome a baby diva in early 2012.
4. Celebrity Kids and Siblings Taking Center Stage
Celebrities often beget celebrities, and 2011 was no exception. Two notable breakout stars in 2011 were Lily Collins (daughter of singer/musician Phil) and Elle Fanning (sister to Dakota). Collins, who'd had some small roles prior to 2011, came into her own opposite Hollywood heartthrob Taylor Lautner in the major motion picture "Abduction." More good news followed when she was cast as Snow White in the forthcoming "Mirror Mirror," also starring a couple of other actors you may have heard of, like Julia Roberts and Armie Hammer. Fanning has also been working steadily for several years, but really drew attention as the star of the critical favorite "Super 8." She is also currently starring in "We Bought a Zoo" alongside Matt Damon.
5. Mariska's Multiple Adoptions
The Law & Order: SVU thespian and her husband are giving the Jolie-Pitts a run for their money, thanks to their adoption of not one, but two babies in 2011. The couple, who have a 5-year-old son, adopted a baby girl and then decided to go ahead and start what they thought would be a lengthy process to adopt a third child. Apparently, the adoption gods were smiling down on them, though, since their application was approved less than a week later! Baby Andrew joins big sister Amaya and big brother August.
6. Kimberly Stewart and Benicio del Toro's Odd Coupling

What captivated people about this story is not that Kimberly Stewart (daughter of world-famous rocker Rod) had a baby, or that Benicio Del Toro became a father. Instead, the interesting part is that they became parents together. Anyway, the pair, who aren't currently a couple, welcomed daughter Delilah Genoveva Stewart Del Toro in August.
7. Jessica Simpson's Bump Hiding Fail
Jessica Simpson had a tumultuous time for a while there: Her marriage ended and she was involved in a string of high-profile romances with notoriously commitment-phobic men. So the world was naturally very happy for her when her expanding waistline was finally confirmed to be exactly what we thought it was – a baby bump. She and fiancé Eric Johnson have a busy few months ahead of them, now that they're planning a nursery as well as a wedding. Congrats, Jess!
8. The Beckhams' Tiny Fashionista

Victoria Beckham and hottie hubby David welcomed daughter Harper Seven in July. The couple were already proud parents to three strapping sons, so Harper will undoubtedly be the best-dressed princess in one of the world's most beautiful households. Although they certainly have the finances to fund gender selection, there is no evidence that they took steps to ensure a baby girl this time around.
9. Are Charlie Sheen's Kids "Winning?"

Charlie Sheen's erratic behavior earlier this year did more than put his name in the headlines. At one point, his ex-wife Brooke Mueller filed a restraining order against him, with the end result of a judge removing the twin boys from Sheen's custody temporarily. Since the fracas, Sheen has regained partial custody and has decided not to pursue full custody while Mueller undergoes out-patient rehabilitation for drug abuse, citing that it's not in the best interests of his sons to take them away from their mother.
10. Mayim Bialik's Extended Breastfeeding Advocacy
Blossom – I mean, Mayim – earned praise and some skepticism in 2011 when she announced that she still breastfeeds her 3-year-old son, Fred. Although she's taking steps to slowly wean him, she continues to allow him to nurse because she doesn't want to traumatize the tyke. Breastfeeding advocates have doled out accolades, although many mothers shake their heads in disbelief that she has been able to last so long. Still, in a world where many of the parenting stories we come across are so depressing, it's nice to see an example of such generosity.
