Take Two!
[From the TLC Editors: Check out these Kate Plus Eight Webisodes.]
I am seeing my own childhood come back to (sorta) haunt me! Recently, Cara and Mady have begun to put on “shows” for any and all willing persons to watch. Sometimes their shows include the little kids as “extras,” and sometimes the show only features the two of them.
Regardless, the shows/musicals are always funny and so very inventive! I remember coming home recently from a trip with the kids. It was 10:30 pm a few nights after returning, and all eight kids burst into song and dance (yes, they can dance. And no they didn't get that ability from this girl -- to answer the burning question on your mind) on the staircase immediately inside the front door of our home.
The impromptu show at that hour was certainly a result of the jet lag they suffered upon returning, but regardless it was plain hysterical! They danced around singing their made up “s-t-u-p-i-d stupid song.”
I caught it on video so that I can be sure to show it for all prospective boyfriends/girlfriends some day. (I think I'll even serve popcorn for that show!) That's going to feel good after surviving the teenage years times eight, I can tell you that for sure!
More recently, they put on a welcome home show for me immediately upon their return from their dad's apartment ... not sure why I got the welcome home, but because it involved all eight kids and ended in a huge group hug surrounding mommy, I didn't need to worry about the nitty gritties. I just needed to eat up all the love that I had missed for the last two days. That particular show was inspired by a very evident happiness and excitement that we were all reunited at home! I got the point!
Every day now there is a new production in our house ... it's just a matter of what time the show plays. As I watched the latest rendition, I was reminded of the many productions that my brother and sisters and I performed for my parents and grandparents twenty five years ago.
I smiled to myself as I envisioned my grandma's living room “stage” and some of our costumes and skits we worked so hard on ... Break a leg, girls (figure of speech only)!
It's a beautiful day! :0)
