The Magic and Blessings of Summer

It’s inevitable. Summers end is near and I have two weeks left to really live up the last remaining lazy days with my children. I wonder have I spent this time well?
Summer gives me a magical uninterrupted period to learn more about my two growing children, and I have loved every minute of it. I have to admit that there is even a bit of sadness that comes with realizing that they will go back to school a whole summer taller and bring quiet and industry back to my days to replace slamming screen doors, watermelon faces, and the unhurried pace of this glorious season.

Their long, lean, brown, bodies will once again become fully clothed in their back to school attire and sturdy sensible shoes will replace the beauty and simplicity of their Huck Finn feet. Oh how I wish I could capture every image of them right now - they are growing up so quickly!
It used to annoy me how people would say..."they’ll be grown in the blink of an eye"... but now I can see how quickly that might happen. I am grateful in this moment for the summer gap so that I can stop. breathe. notice. and appreciate. all of the blessings I have right right now at this moment and savor every last bite of each garden meal, toe headed fancy free smile , and cricket chirping starry night.
Thank you Summer... it’s been a wonderful season!
