Who knew that teaching your kid to draw could be as simple as telling them to depict the shape of a butt. But that's the idea behind a New York-based company called Everything Butt Art. Already offering two kids arts books based on the "butt drawing" technique, the company is now releasing a free iPad app that doesn't just teach kids to draw, but also includes the parents by emailing them each time a kid completes a new art challenge, and gives them easy ways to share their little prodigies' butt-related art with the world.

I confess that even I - who loves nothing more than talking about poop, potty training and cloth diapering - was a little skeptical at first about what sounded like little more than a slightly silly gimmick. But the app looks pretty awesome, and the simple notion of teaching kids to draw through one easy, recognizable and mildly amusing shape that they then use to recognize patterns and expand their imagination seems logical to me.

Having recently watched in awe as my 2-year-old mastered an iPhone before we did, I am sure this would be a pretty awesome tool for her to express her creativity. And knowing that we could all learn a thing or two about being creative from our kids, I wouldn't be surprised if my wife and I start doodling butts all over the place too.
